Once you connect by Miracast, everything that happens on your phone screen will be shared in real time. That could be a game, an app, a document, anything! The connection is made directly between the phone and the Miracast receiver in an ‘ad-hoc’ connection. This means it doesn’t go through your Wi-Fi network, so it doesn’t impact network speed for anyone else in the house and isn’t affected by your Internet connection.-source
Unlike chromecast, which seems to need wifi, miracast appears not to do so. Also there are windows laptops and tablets which are compatible with miracast, don't know about with chromecast.
AFAIK, only apple still doesn't support miracast, which is sad. As support for universal standards like usb, should be universal.
