Cutting Through the Marketing BS!

Cyberpunk 2077 - Official 48 Minute Gameplay Reveal

Yet another comment on brain computer interfaces, abundance, and postscarcity society.

The thing is, AI will eventually accelerate the development of brain computer interfaces. Brain computer interfaces will eventually allow all the senses, all the sensations to be replicated digitally and stored accessible instantly. Like netflix and youtube do with video, or spotify with music. All sensations, taste, smell, touch, all realworld experiences will be recordable, shareable and able to be experienced again and again for free.
Control the brain, and you can eat the most nutritious food, and it doesn't matter how unpalatable it is, the signals will be intercepted and changed such that the food tastes as the best tasting possible food.
You can also eat thin air, and drink thin air, while consuming virtual food with all the richness of sensation and none of the calories. Even the most expensive of dishes, can be had unlimited as desired at a moment's notice, instantly, cost free.
It can also generate worlds of untold beauty and extense virtually. Sensations can be recorded, and shared even from other people. You can experience the emotions, the thoughts, the sense of making choices, the tastes, the smells, the sights, everything indistinguishable from living it yourself live in person, indistinguishable from real recordings, and imaginings of real and fictitious locations.
Say you take the world's richest person a 100 years from now, say he records his life from birth till death. A billion people could potentially experience it all, indistinguishable from being that person, and it would take virtually no resources to live and experience everything he did as vividly and realistically as if you actually were that person.
________________________________________________________________________
The thing is eventually computation and ai will allow the development of alternate histories, to adapt to any possible choice. Such that you too could not only live the same life but make different choices, and experience realistic alternate outcomes or even an entirely fictional experience as a non existent wealthiest individual with free agency.
In any case there is no experience that cannot be recreated with computation, ai and a connection to the brain.

EDIT: People will be able to live in virtual worlds, and use augmented reality to mix the virtual with the real. Any fantasy or desire they have can be materialized by ai in digital form and transmitted directly to the brain at low cost.
People will share, and interact with each other while having access to the ability to exchange thought, emotion, and countless sensations and conjure up any food or experience or sight or sound, touch, smell out of thin air. A far more magical and richer social experience.
Today there are streamers. In the future it has been hypothesized there will be experience beamers, people that connect all their senses to the internet, and thousands or millions connect to their feed and feel all they're feeling.
But not everyone will follow experience beamers. There will be movies and interactive stories or games, where you're a bystander or you're a protagonist, in countless stories with wonderful worlds. Some of these experiences may last hours, other days, yet others may last years decades or more. Perhaps even your memories and personality will be temporarily blocked and overrided, if so desired.
Why would such tech become widely available? Because with the advanced manufacturing of the future it is likely to be practically free to mass produce. With full automation there is no need of employment, and basic needs can easily be met, population caps and regulated reproduction can ensure there are always enough resources to provide basic needs to everyone.
The wealthiest can still have an edge with having more physical land, better physical transportation, and the ability to conduct larger scale simulations with entire simulated billions of people to rule over with godlike power using their BCI. The less wealthier the smaller the scale and complexity of what can be produced, unless it is in a shared multi user experience where the costs are distributed.

Battlefield V: Official GeForce RTX Trailer

Battlefield 5 Nvidia Raytracing demo (Shows off new areas)

A reply over at reddit commenting on the implied idea that ray tracing has been used for decades an most prerendered film cg has been ray traced all along:

I remember I think it was in pixar cars, that it'd be their first use of  ray tracing in a cg movie.

>Monster University was the first true ray tracing movie from pixar
"Historically we don't use raytracing. It wasn't until Cars that we actually supported raytracing (and even then it was a haphazard and mostly broken support)"-an interview with Chris Horne at Mason Smith's blog source
>Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
Snow was not directly on Speed 2 but on that film the team at ILM worked on faking expensive ray tracing - ILM, fxguide.com
Most other hollywood cg has also been lacking on ray tracing use in  decades past
>Pearl Harbor (2001)
Ben Snow Nominated, Oscar: Best Effects, Visual Effects for Pearl Harbor (2001).
Shared With: Eric Brevig, John Frazier, Edward Hirsh
>So, in the rich tradition of visual effects, says Snow, "we approached the end of the 90s with a bunch of hacks. Of course ray tracing and global illumination were already in use in production and constant improvements were cropping up each year at Siggraph. But we were, and still are to an extent, in love with the look of our RenderMan renders, and were already dealing with scenes of such heavy complexity that ray tracing and global illumination were not practical solutions."- ILM, fxguide.com
Even in 2003 with hulk still ray tracing was lacking
fx guide ben snow evolution of ilm lighting source

It has basically been during the last decade - decade and a half that ray tracing has become more common rather than being sparingly used or not at all.

I think what they were using renderman reyes, with simpler solutions for getting global illumination.
With AI frame reconstruction, and AI denoising + hardware acceleration of ray tracing, these techniques have basically provided orders of magnitude increase in performance, basically allowing ray tracing to catch up to the very recent use of true ray tracing in highly complex scenes in film, albeit at lower fidelity.

Compile XMR Stak and change donation level | POPULAR MONERO MINER ZERO DONATION compiling guide

NOTE:

This is a guide from a youtuber on compiling the xmr stak monero miner.   The miner can be installed from downloadable exe, but it has a small developer donation fee.   Given the source is available it is possible to compile the software from source and eliminate the donations though it takes a few more steps, the compiling steps to produce the exe.

As for monero, monero is a popular cryptocurrency, similar to bitcoin, but different with very strong privacy centered focused design.

A quote from wiki

Monero (XMR) is an open-source cryptocurrency created in April 2014 that focuses on fungibility and decentralization. Monero uses an obfuscated public ledger, meaning anybody can broadcast or send transactions, but no outside observer can tell the source, amount or destination. Monero uses a Proof of Work mechanism to issue new coins and incentivize miners to secure the network and validate transactions. monero wikipedia

A bit of old news, but good stuff regards xbox 4k blu ray player

As some may or may not know the xbox one s and the xbox one x both have the ability to play 4k blu rays.

The xbox s in particular is a very low cost 4k blu ray player, and it did a very good job but at least it seemed like the colors were a bit off on the video content, at least last year(2017).   It appears Microsoft has fixed the bugs as of march, so an update to the player software should fix most of the issues most have had with 4k playback on xbox.

That is the benefit of a console media player, constant updates for many many years, stand alone blu ray players may often face less support and dwindling support within years.

A ‘Display’ notification in the latest Xbox One System Update notes, though, states that the new firmware ‘resolves issues with RGB colors when displaying in 4K HDR mode when playing a UHD disc.’-forbes xbox one 4k player article

Tested: Magic Leap One Augmented Reality Review!

Morality of an action depends on affecting another conscious entity

The power of brain machine interfaces to free the mind or enslave it will open sometime this century.

Some estimates posit it early in the century, though I personally disagree on such optimism barring seminal discoveries in the field of research regards the nature of the mind, of intelligence.  As it is intelligence, the rate of thought and its complexity that limits the rate of progress.

Just as people today beam their images from little web cams out onto the Internet for others to share, many people in 2029 will beam the full stream of signals coming directly from their senses onto the web. We will then be able to experience what other people are experiencing, a la John Malkovich. Of course, the everyday lives of many such experience beamers may not be all that compelling, so there will be plenty of prerecorded experiences we can plug into it. Beyond just the five senses, these shared experiences will include emotional responses, sexual pleasure, and other mental reactions.-source KurzweilAbstract

This technology posits the streaming of real world sensations in a distributed manner.  Like virtual reality, but involving all the senses, and involving actual sensations from a real person.

I will say that it need not only be external senses, but internal emotions and thoughts could be shared too.  It is conceivable that even the sensation of desiring and willing and choosing an action could be transmitted, while the memories of the receiving person are blocked such that full synchrony occurs, with some translation, such that both individuals are experiencing everything exactly alike in practically all details, including inner sensations of the brain.

Now here's the thing, as has been stated by Kurzweil famous and infamous people could record their lives, and as I posit even their inner thoughts, emotions and sensation of free will and choice as well as the sensation of having done the actions committed.

A person experiencing the inner life of a noble person there would be no issue.  But what of an infamous person like say a dictator?   Theoretically the person would think and feel all that the dictator did, and make all the same choices, as it is a recording, while feeling they are actually making these choices freely unaware of their true self due to memory inhibition.   Yet despite making the same choices, despite being indistinguishable in act as well as in the sensory input they receive from what appears reality, indistinguishable from real, despite all this it still remains a record.

And given they are basically 'reading' a record, despite doing all the same actions and having all the same feelings and thoughts, despite this, since they have harmed no one or affected anyone but themselves, they have done nothing immoral.  It matters not what the dictator did, all the evil acts he committed, even if they themselves commit them too within a recording, their action's unlike the dictator's are moral.

Everything exactly the same, yet the truth, is it a recording?  Or is it actually affecting someone?  That makes all the difference and takes any action from ethical and moral to potentially immoral.

A record of history, in a sense, what happened, happened.  It cannot be changed.   Recording history and experiencing it, there is no issue with it.   No matter how detailed a record of an event, no matter how vivid, recording and remembering history will never be the same as the actuals events in history even if it is indistinguishable in feeling.

Broken Spirit : The Story of The Yata Lock - The Most Hated Play In Yu-G...

CNET's best tech of CES 2018

On the versatility of Digital Information

Some have questioned digital information systems, doubting their power. But digital information has been used to transmit movement commands, auditory information, visual information and it stands to reason far more will be possible in the future.

Brain computer interfaces, allow a computer to directly stimulate the brain and induce a sensation.  At present rudimentary versions exist, but in the future these may become far more advanced.   Nothing seemingly prohibits a high bandwidth brain machine interface.

Future high bandwidth brain computer interfaces, it stands to reason, will one day enable the transmission, recording and replay of thought, emotion and sensation. Essentially all conscious experience will be shareable, distributable and storable.    A digital system will store and transmit the essence of human experience, the qualia across long distances.

But if digital information, is able to store and transmit even the most miraculous and impressive of all natural phenomena, the sensations of consciousness, why would it be lacking regards the rest of the phenomena found in nature?

Right now some may debate or argue such cannot ever be, but there doesn't seem to be any barriers for such future development.   Once such technology arrives, how can we say that digital information lacks in versatility?  May it not be that the nature of the universe itself, of existence itself, is digital at heart?

On evil

An intrinsic aspect of existence.  Part of the eternal truth of the world.

The part of the body of truth that is often blindly questioned, maligned, detested by those who believe they are on the side of the good.

Yet despite the tragedies that befall, how can we deny any aspect of existence?  The story of the world, how could it be told without being complete?

Evil in its brokenness, the errors in its appearance, it still reflects the truth, it still reaffirms the truth, as it is a part of it.

Some commit evil out of hate, others out of ignorance, yet other's still believe they are doing good while committing evil.

Failure and Success,  Light and Shadow, Good and Evil, the contrast between opposites helps set the boundaries and allow us to see the true nature of the concepts.  Intimately tied and dependent, two sides of the same cloth forever bound and intertwined.   The more you understand them the more you come to realize the weaving that binds them crisscrossing from one side to the other.

Time and again history repeats, evil is not abolished but redefined through the ages.

Given it is inevitable, the stance can be to appreciate it, without embracing it, despite the suffering evil brings, or to blindly detest evil without knowing how bound it is to the nature of the world, and how such blind hatred of evil may very well lead one unknowingly down the path of evil.

Benefits of Lentils and Chickpeas

How whataboutism can sometme be valid, and calling something a whataboutism can be a BS counterargument

Whataboutism can be misused but it can also be valid.

In many cases so called whataboutism is merely pointing out

"People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones at other people's glass houses"

or Jesus's famous statement

"Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye."

True, it can be misused to divert a topic.  But it can also be used to clearly state an apparent hypocritical stance, when one allows, tolerates, or even promotes worse from other groups one favors.

If you point out the hypocrisy of someone, it is not invalid or an error to point such.  And the person should define why the claim of hypocrisy is wrong, not merely try to silence the opposition by claiming whataboutism.

"So I'm a hypocrite pointing it out is not valid!" "whataboutism SHUT UP!"  And then completely ignore their apparent cognitive dissonance that has just been pointed out and brought into the light.

It can be valid because if you tolerate or advocate for the same on some group, and not this one, either there is no real issue with it, and you're just maligning another group on what you believe is a nonissue or you have to clarify or at least own up to your hypocrisy.   Banning, Censoring, etc And claiming whataboutism, that does not make the hypocrisy go away, that does not make the inconsistency on your stance go away.

And it is something relevant to many a debate, why exactly do you implicitly allow, condone, tolerate, etc such or similar or worse from your own side?  Pointing out that you're inconsistent, and that similar goes uncalled elsewhere by you or your team is perfectly valid in my book.
