Digital foundry does hands-on with dlss 5

 

DLSS 5 an upcoming tech, supposedly limited to 5000 geforce series, or higher, iirc, is being showcased.  This tech superimposes ai generated technology into the games.  

Edit: My opinion is that this new technology should have been called something else and leave the dlss upscaling as a separate path from the ai generated path.

AI video generation filter over an excellent old game.   In a few more hardware generations it is likely that such ai filters will be applicable in realtime to any game.

edit:  The latest upcoming dlss is set to do something like this in realtime, but I would have preferred it to be called something other than dlss. As I believe upscaling still has room to improve without relying on such radical ai filter overlaying.

Comment:  algorithms are getting faster and cheaper to run. But without copyright reform only small clips can likely be made even if it eventually becomes practical to remake the whole series. A full 1 for 1 full series remaster would likely need blessing of copyright owners. But currently the laws say ai gen is copyright free, which is also a problem on its own. We definitely need new laws to enable fair use and sharing of royalties while retaining some level of rights to those that modify and update content with ai tools
