The Stepford wives demonized the idea of the housewife to such an extent that the rumors of the movie alone affected many women who never even saw the movie. This caused a drive away from forming families, towards an unnatural state that was averse to families. Eventually leading to mass unhappiness in women and unsatisfaction from abandoning the critically important most vital element of society the nuclear family.
